I am so disappointed. I was up at the crack of dawn to see what antics my favorite characters had gotten into this time. What I found was a book that I feel that Janet Evanovich did not even write. There were none of her clever situations or dialogues. There was no love triangle. There was introductions to new characters but absolutley no development of them, so you basically could care less about what happens to them. I always loved the way she protrayed phone conversations and could make you actually hear the inflections in the characters' voices and see their facial expressions but none of that was in this book. I am sooo sad! Maybe she is simply tired of these characters but something is definitely amiss.

I love Janet Evanovich's other books but was also very disappointed with this story. I always liked how she developed her colorful characters and added to their personality with each new story. This story didn't really do that. The characters and plot were flat and uninteresting. The characters seemed "out of character". I felt like she had "points" she wanted to cover during the story and she was rushing from one point to another without really developing anything.

I always look forward to her next book (and sometimes a year waiting for the next Plum book is too much), but I feel like Ms. Evanovich is trying to meet deadlines or crank out several books within a year and is rushing to get the story completed. I would almost prefer that she takes her time to develop the plot and characters more fully, than to rush to get the story published.

I really enjoyed this installment of Stephanie and life in the Burg. I started reading Plum for the laughs, and then got hooked on the characters. This one had me laughing out loud in several scenes and it showcased my favorite supporting cast members. Not much in the way of romantic angst in this one, which is fine with me. That just gives more page time to the funny stuff. Joe was fantastic, Ranger was more like the early Ranger I enjoy, and Grandma was just the way I like her, a crazy pain-in-the-butt without being too over the top. I love the way Janet Evanovich took a hodgepodge of kooky side characters - some familiar, some new - and made it work. Two words "potato cannon." I was proud of Stephanie in this one. She was not as bumbling as she's been in some of her escapades. This one's inspiring me to pull out some of my earlier Plum novels and do a reread! It was well worth paying the hardcover price!

I've waited a whole year to read this book and am so disappointed! There are subplots left dangling, gags that feel forced, and characters that I don't even recognize. Stephanie is the worst, and I miss her. Lula seems way over the top and I'm embarrassed for the way she's portrayed. All in all, I'm of the opinion that Ms. Evanovich seems to have grown weary of her characters and is recycling old plots, hoping that her fans won't notice. Unfortunately, I noticed. If you enjoyed Twelve Sharp, you probably won't care for this one.

Just got the book today and read it in one sitting and laughed out loud. I can always count on this series to deliver.
