3 out of 5 stars Not bad for the money   July 2, 2008

I bought this for my 6 year-old daughter thinking it was a plastic case for her to keep her animals in. I was disappointed when I opened it and saw all the cardboard pieces. We put it together quickly and I've only had to reinsert some of the cardboard levels a couple times. She's pretty careful about picking what animal goes in each spot, making sure that the animal isn't too big for the space making it hard to get out. This wouldn't hold up more than a single minute with my 2 year-old, so she keeps it in her room up where her sister can't get to it. So far, so good.

I have always been pleased with the "Littlest Pet Shop" toys...until this one. My 3 year old daughter received it as a Christmas gift, and while she enjoys playing with it, I spend more time putting it together than she does playing! The main shadow box is flimsy cardboard and the front piece is a foam "puzzle". It will not stay together even under normal play. I do not suggest this toy at all.

3 out of 5 stars Not very sturdy   February 8, 2008

You put this together like a puzzle. It is made out of a foamy material that is covered with thin cardboard. It was fun to put it together. We bought several of these to use as display cases but they wont stay together on their own. We ended up using a lot of tape and glue to keep them together. The pets now stay in thier little cubbies pretty well. Each cubby can hold two to three pets. It hangs on the wall easily and is an easy way to keep them organized if your kid is relatively neat(ours are usually in piles on the floor).
The most fun part seems to be using the holes as target practice for the pets, which little brother REALLY likes.
I got these on crazy clearance. I would not recommend paying full price since so much time and effort went into making them functional.

5 out of 5 stars 10 year old loves it!   January 15, 2008

My 10 year old had fun putting the colorful foamcore together and has spent days (including Xmas) rearranging her pets in the little "apartments".
It's not the sturdiest toy, but it didn't fall to bits when she dropped it, either. It is easy to store, not a weird bulky shape as some of the rigid plastic Pet Shop stuff is.
Another thing is that she has found uses for the punched out bits of foamcore in artwork and school projects. Who knew?
Definitely worth the price.

3 out of 5 stars LPS cardboard display   January 11, 2008

Yes, It's cardboard. Assembly is required, it was easier to assemble than taking most toys out of their packaging. Okay, I bought one checked it out and wrapped it for x-mas, I kept an eye on the price because I knew she was going to need a few of these. When it went below six, I grabbed the second!

The idea was to have them displayed when she isn't playing with them, but no go. I have set them up. But when my daughter plays with LPS she plays with them ALL, so they all come out and when she's done she finds it easier or more convenient (for on the go) to stash the LPS pets in the vinyl bag the 10 pack comes in.

Also can someone at LPS please get it together! These pets are adorable and my daughter plays with them more than her new wii---and they have magnets! My daughter enjoys putting them on the front door and any magnet boards around the house, why don't they incorporate that into this display? That way the seahorse will actually stand and not tip over! The same goes with the display-n-play. They have these little rooms (small shelf) but they decorate the flooring (plastic) with pillow beds and so forth so there is actually nowhere for the pets to stand without falling over. The swings don't have them either, so many of the pets with the big heads actually flop right out of the swings, you have to fish thru the pets to find some that will sit without tipping over. Ugh, frustrating.

So I think I'm done trying to get her to use this display, if your kid will use it, it's not bad for the right price. But I think I'll follow my daughter's lead and just buy her a magnet board. It's more expensive but it will last forever even after she outgrows LPS......Gee, I'm glad I wrote this because I hadn't thought of that till now. Now to find a good staple's coupon! Or better yet, I'll check Amazon so I don't have to go out in this icky weather.
